About Kainai Forage

Kainai Forage is a partnership between the Blood Tribe and Indigena Capital providing quality forage exports to international markets. Founded by the Blood Tribe in 1997 as the Blood Tribe Forage Processing Plant, the business was rebranded for expansion in 2019 to Kainai Forage. For over 20 years international markets have enjoyed high quality timothy hay and alfalfa produced from our dedicated lands. In 2019, the Blood Tribe partnered with Indigena Capital L.P. to expand the business from 20,000 tonnes per annum to over 100,000 tonnes.

Kainai Forage enjoys unmatched supply security anchored by the Blood Tribe’s 25,000 acre irrigation project, the largest in Canada. These lands, dedicated to growing forage for export, provide the foundation for security of supply to international markets. Kainai Forage partners with experienced forage growers from Southern Alberta on the lands and all forage is dedicated to Kainai Forage for processing and export. Our international customers include dairy, beef, equine and pet food producers in Japan, Korea, the Middle East, China, and North America.
