Stand Off, AB: (March 15th, 2021): Kainai Forage is pleased to announce that the Phase 2 expansion of its forage processing and export business expansion plan is advancing. This stage of Phase 2 will see the addition of a new sate-of-the-art processing facility and storage sheds, which will grow the Plant storage and processing capacity to over 100,000 Metric Tonnes (“MT”) per annum.

With over $13 million of capital injected into the forage facility to date, Kainai Forage has achieved considerable milestones toward the completion of Phase 2. Highlights include:

Advancement of construction on an additional shed (Shed 8), which will store, 10,000 MT of forage. Kainai Forage broke ground on this new shed in Q4 of 2020 and is pleased to announce that the construction of the shed will be completed in April 2021. With all four walls up and the roof completed (above), the Project is on track to be ready well in advance of the 2021 growing season. This is the fourth new storage shed in less than two years and will increase Kainai Forage’s storage capacity to 60,000 MT, more than doubling capacity from when the expansion program started in 2019.  With the addition of Shed 8, it is believed Kainai Forage has the largest capacity for on-site storage of this type in Canada, enabling Kainai Forage to continue to deliver high quality product to customers around the world year-round.

In Q4 2020, Kainai Forage ordered a new high-capacity forage press (see images below) capable of 100,000 MT per annum. The press will increase the company’s capacity to provide finished product to its customers in all of the same formats currently provided and increase total capacity to approximately 150,000 MT per annum.  In addition to the added capacity, the new press will bring operational improvements to the business, including the ability to run two forage presses, which will achieve more efficient operations. The new press construction is on-time and is scheduled for delivery in September 2021.
